Our Story

"Your postcode does not define your future."

I grew up in West Auckland, where opportunities often felt limited and success seemed like something that happened to other people.

As a kid, I struggled. Looking back now, I was an undiagnosed ADHD kid who often fell through the cracks. School wasn't easy, and university never felt like a path that was meant for someone like me. Like many young people, I spent years questioning where I fit and what I was capable of achieving.

Growing up in West Auckland taught me many things. It taught me resilience, perspective, and the value of hard work. It also taught me that when you grow up in the shadows, you learn how to shine. You learn how to keep moving forward, how to back yourself when others don't, and how to create opportunities where none seem to exist.

I learned that your postcode does not define your future. Where you come from is part of your story, but it doesn't determine where you're going.

I've always connected with the underdogs. The kids who feel different, who struggle to fit the mould, or who find themselves falling through the cracks. Not because they're less capable, but because their strengths are often overlooked. Growing up, I experienced many of those challenges myself, and it shaped the way I see the world today.

The concept of Roots is deeply personal to me. It represents knowing where you come from, understanding your story, and embracing the experiences that have shaped you. Because when you know your roots, you gain clarity about where you're going.

That belief sits at the heart of everything we do.

Occupational therapy wasn't something commonly talked about where I grew up, but I became passionate about creating the support that I wish more young people had access to. I wanted to build a place where children feel understood, where their strengths are recognised, and where they are empowered to believe in themselves.

Roots Occupational Therapy

At Roots Occupational Therapy, we support children and young people aged 3-17 with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, developmental delays, sensory processing differences, learning difficulties, coordination challenges, and behavioural concerns.

Our approach begins with understanding the whole child. Through comprehensive assessments, we identify each child's strengths, challenges, and underlying needs, allowing us to create therapy that is purposeful, evidence-based, and tailored to their goals.

We believe that strong foundations create endless possibilities. That's why we focus on developing the core skills that help children thrive, including sensory processing, emotional regulation, attention, confidence, independence, motor skills, and social connection. These are the roots that support growth, resilience, and success throughout life.

Our mission is to help every child build strong roots through confidence, resilience, and self-belief. We want young people to know that their challenges do not define them, their diagnosis does not limit them, and their future is theirs to create.

Just as I learned that my story was still being written, we want every young person we support to know that theirs is too.

Because when children have strong roots, they are free to grow, thrive, and become everything they are capable of being.
