Our Approach
There's a reason you won't always see tables in our therapy rooms.
Children don't learn best by sitting still and completing repetitive tasks, They learn through movement, exploration and play.
At Roots Occupational Therapy, play isn't a reward at the end of therapy; it is the therapy.
While your child is climbing, swinging, jumping or navigating obstacle courses, they're developing the foundations for everyday skills. Every activity is carefully selected to support sensory processing, balance, body awareness, motor planning, attention, emotional regulation and confidence.
Ayres Sensory Integration®
Sensory integration is the brain’s ability to organise information from the senses so we can move, learn, regulate our emotions and participate in everyday life.
At Roots Occupational Therapy, our founder Jaden is certified in Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI), the gold-standard, evidence-based approach developed by Dr. A. Jean Ayres. Unlike general sensory-based therapy, ASI follows a structured clinical framework that uses purposeful, child-led play to improve the way the brain processes sensory information.
Every therapy session is individualised, guided by clinical reasoning, and designed to help children build the foundations they need to thrive at home, at school and in the community.
Our Services
-
We begin with a parent telehealth consultation to understand your concerns, your child's strengths and goals, and determine whether our service is the right fit.
-
Assessment comes before therapy. This allows us to understand the underlying reasons for your child’s challenges so intervention is targeted from the very beginning.
Our Clinical Lead is trained through CLASI to administer the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration® (EASI), an internationally recognised assessment for children aged 3–12 years.
The EASI assesses body awareness, balance, bilateral coordination, motor planning (praxis), visual-ocular skills and sensory processing. This information guides our clinical reasoning and ensures therapy is tailored to your child's individual strengths and needs.
Following the assessment, we'll discuss the results, set meaningful goals together, and develop an individualised therapy plan.
-
Our therapy is child-led because children learn best when they are engaged and having fun.
Using the information gathered during the assessment, we create playful, motivating activities that target your child's individual goals. While it may look like games, climbing, swinging and obstacle courses, every activity is purposeful and guided by clinical reasoning.
To your child, it feels like play. To us, it's therapy.

Playmakers
Our Sports Groups use movement, games and team activities to help children develop emotional regulation, social skills and confidence in a fun, supportive environment.
Children learn to work with others, manage winning and losing, solve problems, and navigate challenges with peers while developing coordination, teamwork and self-regulation. Every activity is facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and tailored to support each child's participation and success.
Future Champs
Future Champs is designed for young children who may miss out on community sport because of underlying sensory processing, motor planning or coordination challenges.
Using fun, play-based activities, our Occupational Therapists help children develop the foundational skills needed to participate confidently in sport and group activities before they start school. Sessions focus on body awareness, balance, coordination, emotional regulation, following instructions, taking turns and building confidence in a supportive, small-group environment.
Our goal is to help children develop the skills they need to enjoy being active and feel ready to join school and community sporting programs with confidence.
