Frequently Asked Questions

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps children build the skills they need to participate in everyday activities—like playing, learning, dressing, and socialising. At Roots, we use a play-based approach to support areas such as motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and social development.

How do I know if my child needs OT?

You might notice your child has difficulty with focus, coordination, managing emotions, handwriting, or engaging with peers. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to chat and help you decide if an assessment is the right step.

What age groups do you work with?

We support children and teens aged 3 to 17 years.

Do I need a referral to access OT services?

No referral is required to book with us. You can simply complete our online booking request form or get in touch directly.

What happens in an OT session?

Each session is tailored to your child’s goals and needs. It may include sensory-based play, fine or gross motor activities, social games, and emotional regulation strategies. All delivered in a fun and engaging way.

Can I sit in on my child’s session?

Yes! Parent involvement is encouraged, especially for younger children. We'll always discuss what works best for your child and your family's goals.

Do you offer NDIS-funded sessions?

Yes, we work with families who are self-managed or plan-managed under the NDIS. Let us know your funding arrangement when you get in touch.
